And when I die

Posted by Anne on November 24th, 2009

Laura Nyro’s original version is deep, but I’m posting the video of Peter, Paul and Mary singing in Sydney, instead, where the soaring camera and the sailboats out on the harbor match the uplifting harmonies. Sometimes I feel those we have lost are close by, up around our heads somewhere.

Chorus:
And when I die and when [...]

e. e. cummings: if there are any heavens

Posted by Anne on November 22nd, 2009

if there are any heavens my mother will(all by herself)have
one. It will not be a pansy heaven nor
a fragile heaven of lilies-of-the-valley but
it will be a heaven of blackred roses
my father will be(deep like a rose

standing near my
(swaying over her
silent)
with eyes which are really petals and see

Liz, who works with elderly people, sent these wise words written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio:
“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is [...]

Mr Roger’s Neighborhood

Posted by Anne on November 17th, 2009

With all the love going to Sesame Street last week, time to remember Mr. Roger’s Neighborhhood, in production from 1968 to 2001. It always started with his theme song, Won’t you be my neighbor, and included a trip to the “Neighborhood of Make-Believe”, with the miniature trolley that had its own chiming theme song. The [...]
