“Joe the plumber” was the hero of this debate. McCain said,

“A couple days ago Senator Obama was out in Ohio and he had an encounter with a guy who’s a plumber, his name is Joe Wurzelbacher. Joe wants to buy the business that he has been in for all of these years, worked 10, 12 hours a day. And he wanted to buy the business but he looked at your tax plan and he saw that he was going to pay much higher taxes. You were going to put him in a higher tax bracket which was going to increase his taxes, which was going to cause him not to be able to employ people, which Joe was trying to realize the American dream.”

This was not the first appearance of “Joe the Plumber”, a term that has been used for years for the ordinary man on the street (Urban Dictionary). But here’s the Joe Obama met … on evil Fox News!

Fox may be using him and John McCain may be scraping the barrel here, but sure, we definitely do want to know if the middle class is going to be on the paying or the receiving side of tax breaks and public programs. The sad story is, though, Joe, that we’re in a recession, and we’ll all be on the paying side. So join in with me and sing a little song:
