Münchner Wissenschaftstage

A consortium of educational institutions here in Munich host the annual “Wissenschaftstage”, this year featuring mathematics. The enormous program includes some 50 lectures about the history, development and applications of math, but also exhibitions, tours, workshops for adults and for children, films and concerts beginning today and lasting through Tuesday. Here is a paragraph taken from the announcement and translated into English:

“The 8th Münchner Wissenschaftstage from 18 to 21 October 2008 are entitled “Mathematics – A Part of Everyday Life” in line with the aims of the Year of Mathematics 2008 to awaken and promote understanding and enthusiasm for mathematics and its many applications. The events are aimed at both non-specialists and specialists who want to think outside the box of their own discipline, especially young people. Mathematical things, logical thinking and applications in the natural sciences, medicine and technology, in the arts and sciences, in the world of finance and politics will be presented in an interesting and generally understandable way.”
