Two very different scenes – street theater and pixels – and yet somehow they are mirror worlds inhabited by the same kinds of dreams. We love puppets of all kinds, don’t we, especially those who seem to really come alive when we pull the strings. Who’s controlling whom? A little creepy (unheimlich) and wierd – but magical wonders. Come see the amazing little girl giant and her virtual cousin.
Royal de Luxe: The Little Girl Giant
Les Balayeurs du Desert, “Decollage”, remix “It amazes me” by Cy Coleman/Carolyn Leigh w/sample Blossom Dearie
I’ve learned to clip my wings

Royal de Luxe are renowned and secretive. Elatia Harris reported on their Sultan’s Elephant pageant, a gesamtkunstwerk. Royal de Luxe will be in Liverpool from 3-7 September to help celebrate the city’s year as the cultural capital of Europe. (My brother Chris sent me this tip – danke, Bruderherz.)
So what happens when the girl slips inside the machine? Here is the “Creepy Girl” application by Motion Portrait – make her follow your mouse as if it were a fly – that reminded me of the little girl giant. (Thanks to Christian for this one.)
Update 25 May 2009: The “Creepy Girl” is no longer available at Motion Portrait.
