  1. Dear Anne,

your Blog is the best medium to understand the american way of life and politics! And, in my opinion, this is a very interesting way of understanding culture and interculture.

    Thank you!

  2. Thanks, Helmut,

I still find it exciting to look across the Atlantic and think about how differently we live our lives. Thinking about how this couple deals with the complex issue of gun ownership is an eye opener. They have this bigger picture of freedom, and expect that we can look closely at people buying guns and check whether they should be bearing them. From a European perspective you’d say that a forester should have his rifle and a policeman should have his pistol. Over here we really wonder about people who want to have a gun at home “for protection” or for sport. In Europe we expect our government and our police to protect us, and distrust anyone who wants to take the law into his or her hands.
These two are very aware that not just crimes, but also accidents happen when people have guns. In the interview Mark Kelly says there was a man with a gun in the crowd who almost shot the wrong guy. And that 85% of all children killed by gunfire in the world are killed in the USA. How can they be supporters of the second amendment?
